 | I am an artist who lives and works in Shropshire. I was born in Essex, but have now spent the majority of my life in this beautiful county and live just on the border with North Wales. The main influence on my painting has become landscape and here where I live I have the advantage of the soft farmlands of the Shropshire Plain on one side and the rugged mountains of North Wales on the other. I am also drawn to the sea and go frequently to Cornwall and to Sardinia in the Mediterranean.
I studied fine art at the University of East London and the Royal Academy Schools London. For a while I worked in the fashion industry and then with theatrical costume.
Until recently I taught part-time for a local college. I am now part of an artists' cooperative sharing a gallery in South Shropshire. I occasionally run day workshops.
I work from drawings made in sketch books photographs and memory. Points of departure come from a direct experience or from a poem or piece of prose.
The materials I use are usually water based (particularly acrylics and inks)except for maybe oil pastels. Prints may be used as finished works in their own right or collaged into paintings - I often use monoprinting as a base for a painting.
